The US role in Sri Lanka

There are two possible view points for the US to approach the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka.

	Justice view	Incumbency view
Basis	All freedom loving people have the right to self determintaion and happiness like the American people.	We are a sovereign nation and we will always support another sovereign nation even if they treat their minorities badly.

Its obvious that a great nation like the United States of America should primarily base its opinion on the justice view. However, in reality the US has been a friend of the Sri Lankan government and its anti-minority war.

Minority Rights	Best standards in the world	One of the worst in the world - only nation to have aerially bombed its minorities for 22 years.	Will seek to establish minority rights based on the western model

Will the United States of America help secure justice for the suffering people of Tamil Eelam by supporting a referendum?
